Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup: one car, one chance
In the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup every driver has the same car, a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. At the Red Bull Ring in July 2022, Luxembourg's Dylan Pereira turned pole into victory.
The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup is the sports car series that races alongside Formula 1 at European Grands Prix. In July 2022 it was part of the Austrian Grand Prix weekend at the Red Bull Ring. The Porsche Supercup gallery has photos from the qualifying session, taken from the fans' grandstands.
A one-make series
Every car in the Supercup is the same: a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, prepared to identical specifications. That makes it one of the purest tests of driving skill in motorsport. With no technical advantage to find, the gaps between drivers are often tiny, and qualifying matters enormously.
Racing in front of F1 crowds
The Supercup has raced as an F1 support series since the early 1990s. For drivers, it means racing on the world's best circuits in front of huge crowds. For fans, it means the sound and sight of a grid of 911s, cars that look much closer to the ones on the road than any Formula 1 car does.
The 2022 race in Spielberg
At the Red Bull Ring, Dylan Pereira of Luxembourg, driving for BWT Lechner Racing, converted pole position into victory, his second win of the season, which put him at the top of the championship. Laurin Heinrich finished second and Bastian Buus third.
A road to professional racing
Many Supercup drivers go on to careers in endurance racing and GT championships, including Le Mans, where Porsche is a constant presence. The series is a showcase for young talent and a place for experienced drivers to prove themselves against equal machinery.
